Orlando, FL -
An estimated 50,000 people attended a candlelight vigil Sunday to remember the 49 people killed at a gay nightclub in Orlando.
Dozens of people were also injured in the attack and some remain in critical condition.
Holding signs which read "Love always conquers hate" and "Love Wins," thousands gathered on the banks of Lake Eola, near downtown Orlando.
"Wow, Orlando," Mayor Buddy Dyer exclaimed. "You're showing your love, your compassion, your unity."
NBC affiliate WESH reported that the crowd "went nuts" when a rainbow appeared over Lake Eola during the vigil.
"The spirit of God is moving on Orlando to bind up the brokenhearted," Dyer told the crowd. "To comfort those who mourn. To proclaim freedom for those shackled in shame."
Also speaking at the event were Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs, former state representative Anthony Suarez, and Rabbi David Kay.
Diana Bolivar, president of the Orlando Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, urged everyone to "stick together like family."
