The American Medical Student Association chapters of Chicago, Partners in Health Engage-Chicago and HIV Prevention Justice Alliance (a project of AIDS Foundation of Chicago) will gather Friday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m. in the Federal Building Plaza, 219 S. Dearborn St., to call on U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk to restore $300 million in cuts to global AIDS.
The groups are rallying for an end to AIDS, and will be wearing a giant milk carton featuring the senators' faces with the caption "MISSING IN THE FIGHT TO END AIDS" prominently displayed.
In July, UNAIDS announced that 15 million people have been started on antiretroviral therapy in large part because of U.S. initiatives like the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
