Proud to Run 5k and 10k announces three running categories; start times

Chicago, IL - Proud to Run, the annual 10K run and 5K run/walk along Chicago's lakefront which has been part of the city's gay and lesbian pride week activities since 1982, takes place on Saturday, June 27, the day before the city's annual pride parade.

The 10K run will start at 8:04 am and the 5K run/walk will start at 8:15 am. The starting point for both will be at Montrose Harbor, just east of the Lakeshore Trail.

Runners and walkers can sign up at at www.proudtorun.org in one of three categories: mixed, male-identified or female-identified.The top team in each category in the 10K run and in the 5K run/walk will receive a coupon for a custom cake from Whole Foods.

Registration includes a technical tee-shirt, a bottle opener medal, an exclusive pride-themed Whole Foods tote bag, and a chance to win a United Airlines domestic round-trip ticket and other prizes.

Following the run/walk, a DJ will keep the energy level up in the Athlete's Village, where the Chicago Spirit Brigade and the Windy City Cowboys also will be performing.

The event is USA Track and Field certified, a Chicago Area Runners Association registered race, and presented in association with Frontrunners/Frontwalkers Chicago.

All Proud to Run proceeds go to nonprofit beneficiaries which include Affinity Community Services, AIDS Legal Council of Chicago and Chicago House.

Organized by an all-volunteer and community-based board, Proud to Run has raised more than $400,000 for 16 nonprofits in the Chicago gay and lesbian community over the last 33 years.
