Sat. January 24, 2009 12:00 AM by Gay Chicago Magazine

Chicago, IL - Asians and Friends Chicago will celebrate Chinese New Year 2009, the year of the Ox, with dinner at its annual gathering at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Phoenix Restaurant, 2131 S. Archer. With a scenic view of the Chicago skyline, the evening will include a Chinese dragon dance, the retelling of the tale of the Ox, a traditional multicourse dinner and an appearance by actors in Hornbill Productions' "Moon Over Hong Kong." This year, Asians and Friends Chicago (AFC) asks members to bring memorabilia from years past, as the group begins preparations to celebrate its 25th anniversary starting in September 2009. The memorabilia project will culminate at AFC's Chinese New Year's celebration in 2010. All photos, newsletters and other pieces will be labeled and carefully stored so that a commemorative media piece can be developed. For more information or tickets, call 312-409-1573 or visit www.afchicago.org.
