Proud to Run names beneficiaries for June 27 10K run and 5K run/walk
Chicago, IL -
Registration is now open for Proud to Run, the annual 10K run and 5K run/walk taking place June 27 as part of Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Pride Week activities.
Organized by an all volunteer, community-based board of directors, Proud to Run is Chicago's original 5K run and walk that celebrates pride and raises funds to support the area's LGBT community. The event is USA Track and Field certified, a Chicago Area Runners Association registered race, and presented in association with Frontrunners/Frontwalkers Chicago.
The organization has selected Affinity Community Services, AIDS Legal Council of Chicago, and Chicago House as the beneficiaries for this year's race. Affinity Community Services and AIDS Legal Council of Chicago are first-time beneficiaries while Chicago House has been involved in past Proud to Run races. The three organizations were selected from a diverse group of 14 applicants.
Proud to Run has raised more than $400,000 for 16 local LGBT nonprofits since 1982.
In 2014, Proud to Run had a record turnout of more than 1,600 registrants. Overall, more than 2,200 people participated in last year's event by running, walking, volunteering and sponsoring.
Runners and walkers can register now for the 2015 Proud to Run 10k run and 5k run/walk at www.proudtorun.org. Registration is $45 before June 25, 2015 at Midnight. Race day registration will also be available for $50.
The 34th annual Proud to Run will take place on Saturday, June 27, the day before the 46th annual Chicago Pride Parade.
