Televangelist Pat Robertson on Thursday cautioned a viewer headed to Kenya on towels, which "could have AIDS."
Robertson, an ardent opponent of gay rights, gave his advice during The 700 Club's Bring It On-Line segment, in which he answers viewers' questions.
"I am planning to go on a mission trip to Kenya in December," an anonymous viewer wrote. "I believe that God heals today and am not consumed about the chance of contracting Ebola. I am also a person who is willing to take practical precautions. However, some friends and family think that my decision to travel is foolish during this season, saying that I am testing God and asking if I have a death wish? What do you think?"
"Not in Kenya," Robertson answered. The Ebola outbreak is centered in West Africa; Kenya is an East African nation.
"You might get AIDS in Kenya," Robertson continued. "The people have AIDS. You got to be careful, I mean, the towels could have AIDS."
However, HIV is transmitted through the exchange of bodily fluids.
Right Wing Watch notes that Robertson last year warned that gay people spread the virus with secret AIDS rings. The warning landed Robertson on Anderson Cooper's RidicuList.
