Chicago, IL - Reeling: The Chicago Lesbian & Gay International Film Festival, the second oldest of its kind in the world, rolled out the red carpet for its 32nd edition on Thursday.

Opening night kicked off with a screening of BOY MEETS GIRL, a moving coming-of-age romantic trans comedy, at the Music Box Theatre on Southport Ave. Writer-director Eric Schaeffer and trans actress Michelle Hendley attended the pre-screening reception.

Actor and comedian Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty , Desperate Housewives) and Carmen Carrera (Rupaul's Drag Race) were also in attendance. ALEC MAPA: BABY DADDY, Mapa's hilarious and heartfelt story of how his life has changed since he and his husband adopted a five year old through the foster care system, will screen at Reeling on Friday, Sept. 19.

The eight-day festival includes a line-up of groundbreaking LGBT films and runs through Sept. 25. The majority of the Reeling screenings take place at the Landmark's Century Cinema, 2828 N. Clark, with others being held at Chicago Filmmakers, 5243 N. Clark.

This year's festival selections run the gamut from edgy to adorable, raunchy to contemplative, disturbing to endearing, and heartbreaking to heartwarming.

"I am incredibly excited about this year's programming," Reeling Programming Director Alexandra Ensign told ChicagoPride.com. "One of my main goals was to provide as much diversity in representing the LGBT experience and community as possible, and I feel like this lineup succeeds in representing us from so many facets.

Reeling 32 includes more than 100 feature and short film from 19 countries -- literally something for everyone.

"I am beyond excited that the films this year showcase so many new themes in unique ways and together form a broader, more optimistic, and more sophisticated reflection of the issues affecting the LGBT community today, both personal and political," added Ensign.

BLACKBIRD, the latest film by Patrik-Ian Polk (PUNKS, NOAH'S ARC), is Reeling's Closing Night selection, showing on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Landmark's Century Centre Cinema.
