Cleveland, OH - Chicago Rowing Union ( CRU ) — the Midwest's only GLBT rowing team — brought home the gold at Gay Games 9, finishing first in the Men's Four with Coxswain race. The event, according to the Cleveland Rowing Foundation, was one of the largest regattas in the history of the Gay Games, with more than 170 participants and 70 boats in more than 15 different events

"This was our club's best performance at a Gay Games to date," said CRU President Bill Moudry. "We couldn't be more proud of the efforts the team put forth in such a tough competition. "

The team also won gold in the Women's Four race, in a combined boat with member of the Pioneer Valley Pride Crew from Massachusetts. CRU finished third in the Men's Eight ( narrowly missing the silver medal by .02 seconds ) and its Mixed Four narrowly missed a medal by 4 seconds.

"We are greatly looking forward to using this in a momentum heading into the U.S. Rowing Club Masters Nationals next week in Grand Rapids, Michigan, further commented Moudry. "We're ready to keep winning more competitions."
