Chicago, IL - Boystown's Spin Nightclub, 800 W. Belmont Ave., has closed effective immediately, ChicagoPride.com confirmed Monday.

"SPIN has officially closed," read a statement on the club's Facebook page. "We would like to thank all of our customers for their support these many years and wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day! Stay tuned for what happens next..."

Several employees told ChicagoPride.com that they were notified of the sudden closing early Monday.

Sources confirmed the nightclub, which anchors the southern end of the North Halsted entertainment strip at Belmont Ave., is under new ownership with plans to re-open around pride weekend.

ChicagoPride.com reported in February that the 9,000-square-foot club was listed on Jameson Commercial by broker Mike Costanzo.

At that time, owner David Gassman told DNAInfo that he no longer wanted to run the club.

Spin has been a popular Boystown destination for not only the LGBT community but for allies as well since it was opened over 15 years ago by Gassman.

The nightclub filled its dance floor with weekly promotions, including Wednesday 'Dollar Drink Night', drag shows and the infamous shower contest on Friday nights.

Gassman was unavailable for comment.

Update: Spin Nightclub to become whiskey distillery and nightclub
