Los Angeles, CA - Jennifer Lopez was presented with an award for her gay rights advocacy by Rita Moreno on Saturday at the 25th annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

"Jennifer has always been a vocal supporter of the LGBT community, speaking out for marriage equality, family equality and the fight against HIV/AIDS," Moreno said in presenting Lopez with the group's Vanguard Award, which is "presented to artists and media professionals who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community."

Lopez, a producer on The Fosters, the ABC Family drama about a two-mom family, said she hesitated to take on the project.

"I asked myself, do I do this or do I not do this." said Lopez. "I'm not going to lie to you. Being in the media, being in the public eye is a bitch sometimes and sometimes you don't feel like getting beat up that day."
