Cubs host Phillies in today's home opener, game starts at 1:20 p.m.
Chicago, IL -
As the Chicago Cubs and their fans are preparing for today's home opener and the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field, Lakeview residents brace for increased traffic and parking restrictions.
Some neighbors are unhappy about the increased traffic congestion and noise that comes with Cubs home games. In response to parking concerns, the Cubs opened a new remote parking lot at 3900 North Rockwell, with shuttle service to and from the park.
CTA officials also announced that the CTA Red Line station, which has been undergoing track work, will be open on Friday.
In an email sent Thursday, Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) reminded residents that on Cubs night games, 383 Residential Permit Parking restrictions on streets north of Belmont begin at 5 p.m. Vehicles not displaying proper permits may be ticketed and towed. Permits can be obtained from Ald. Tunney's office.
All night games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 pm unless otherwise noted on the 2014 Cubs Night Games Schedule. Residents concerned about parking restrictions can choose to receive alerts about upcoming Cubs night games by signing up on the 44th Ward website.
Tunney also reminded residents and fans that Chicago police will have a zero-tolerance policy for public intoxication and DUI, and will be enforcing City and State laws that prohibit the over-serving of alcohol and serving alcohol to minors.
The Cubs host the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:20 p.m. Weather conditions expected for game time are expected to be cloudy, windy and cold, with temperatures in the mid-40s.
