Because festivals are not just for summer, Northalsted presents 1st annual Winter Fest, Feb. 23.

Chicago, IL - The Northalsted Business Alliance (NHBA) is embracing the cold and snow to bring a first to the Boystown neighborhood in the form of Winter Fest on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Organizers hope the one day event will bring the heat to the street with fun winter-themed activities along North Halsted between Belmont and Irving Park Rd.

"It's been hard to embrace all the winter weather this year, so for Chicagoans who may have been hibernating more than usual this is a chance to get out and celebrate the season and raise some spirits," Jen Gordon, spokeswoman for NHBA, told ChicagoPride.com.

Events include live ice sculpting in the 7-Eleven parking lot at 3407 N. Halsted St. with numerous ice carvings placed along the street and a 3D light show between Brompton and Cornelia Ave.

The Divas of Kit Kat Lounge & Supper Club, 3700 N. Halsted St., will be sporting their finest winter fashions as guests pose for ice king or queen photos.

And the Taverna 750 patio, 750 W. Cornelia Ave., will feel the heat of fire dancers.

"If you can't fight the cold, embrace it," joked Taverna 750 owner Paul Cannella. "Everybody gets a little stir crazy during Chicago's winters and people are looking for something to do."

Cannella presented the idea to the NHBA board and members were excited to create an event that "leverages the Chicago winter as a backdrop to fun activities in the neighborhood."

Winter Fest visitors can also savor the flavors of the Soup Walk, which pairs restaurants with retailers at eight separate stops along the strip.

"I can't wait to try all the amazing soups that are planned," commented Gordon. "I am also thrilled to see the live ice sculpting and fire dancers, I love the fire and ice concept."

Gordon added, "It's an event that really incorporates all of our different businesses from bars and restaurants to retailers and service providers."

Northalsted Winter Fest is Sunday, Feb. 23 from Noon to 6 p.m., with the soup walk between 2 - 4 p.m. The event is free and is presented by the Northalsted Business Alliance, the same group behind Pride Fest and Market Days.
