Thirty-four gay and straight couples will be married on live television during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' performance of
Same Love at Sunday's 56th Grammy Awards.
It's expected to be a big night for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who have been nominated in 7 categories, including best new artist and best rap performance. Their second studio album
The Heist is up for album of the year and best rap album. The single
Thrift Shop is up for best rap song, while the video for
Can't Hold Us is nominated for best music video.
Their gay marriage anthem
Same Love is vying for song of the year.
According to
The New York Times, 34 gay and straight couples will exchange vows during the rap duo's performance.
Lewis said the weddings "will be in our minds the ultimate statement of equality, that all the couples are entitled to the same exact thing."
Officiating the nuptials will be Queen Latifah. Macklemore and Lewis will be joined on the stage by Madonna and Mary Lambert, the song's featured vocalist.
