Illinois residents have until midnight Tuesday to register

Chicago, IL - Today is the last day to register for the February 5 Illinois primary.

Illinois residents who are 18 or older have until the end of the day to register for the upcoming Illinois primary.

County clerks and township offices will be open all day to take last-minute registrations. The Chicago Board of Elections office, 69 W. Washington St. #600, will be open until midnight. For more information contact the Board of Elections at 312-269-7960.

If you want to register by mail, you can download a voter registration application online at the Cook County Clerk's web site. It must be postmarked by January 8.

The Illinois primary election date was moved up by six weeks last year by State lawmakers hoping to boost U.S. Senator Barack Obama's chance of winning the Democratic presidential nomination.

Polls will be open February 5 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
