About Face Theatre continues its Dramatically Different Season with premiere of acclaimed young playwright

Chicago, IL - About Face Theatre continues its season with the Chicago premiere of the frighteningly hilarious Say You Love Satan, directed by About Face Artistic Associate Scott Ferguson. Say You Love Satan marks the debut of red-hot playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa in Chicago. The show will be presented on the Burstein Mainstage in the new Victory Gardens Greenhouse, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. Press opening will be October 21 at 5:00 p.m.

You meet a guy. He’s got a body to die for and can get into any nightclub no matter how exclusive. He has all seven seasons of Buffy on DVD. AND he’s read Dostoevsky in the original Russian. He’s perfect, right? Sure. If making out with the Spawn of Satan is your idea of a good time. When lonely egghead Andrew has a fling with a mysterious stranger he meets in a Laundromat, he gets way more than he bargained for!

Say You Love Satan is a hilarious and deeply irreverent comedy by one of the fastest rising stars of the theater world. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s work is being acclaimed both by critics and audiences nationwide. Aguirre-Sacasa has been profiled by New York Times, Variety, and American Theatre and has had his plays produced across the country, including the recent Based on a Totally True Story at New York’s Manhattan Theatre Club. In addition, Aguirre-Sacasa is well known by comic book fans as the writer of the Fantastic Four and Spiderman series for Marvel Comics.

Say You Love Satan also marks the return to the About Face stage by director Scott Ferguson, an Artistic Associate at About Face. Ferguson, who directed the hit productions of Xena Live! Episodes I and II, has been involved with About Face for the last ten years, and this production marks a welcome return.

"Roberto is a major new voice in the American theatre," says Artistic Director Eric Rosen. "His fusion of high comedy, pop culture, and graphic novel sensibility has launched an impressive career, and I couldn’t be happier to welcome him to the roster of nationally acclaimed artists that find their home at About Face. And of course Scott Ferguson is the perfect choice for this material. His deft handling of high and low comedy perfectly matches the smart, sexy, fun tone that Roberto captures so exquisitely in the play."

"I am so thrilled and excited to be directing this show with About Face," says Ferguson. "This show is one part Dostoevsky, one part horror film, one part Buffy episode, and one part delicious comedy. I can’t wait to bring this show to Chicago's audiences."

The production showcases the return of favorite About Face actors, including Artistic Associate Scott Duff (Martin, Chad, Rafael, Gay Bouncer), previously seen in many About Face shows including Whitman, Fascination, and Theater District, and Benjamin Sprunger (Jerrod), most recently seen in Take Me Out. The cast of Say You Love Satan also includes Joshua Rollins (Andrew), Elizabeth Ledo (Bernadette), and Jonathan Pereira (Jack).

Designing Say You Love Satan are Jack Magaw (set), Christopher Ash (lights), Emily McConnell (costumes), Josh Horvath (sound), and Lindsay Theo (properties). The production will be stage managed by Adam Ford.

The production is made possible with generous support from Jake, the Chicago boutique with stores on Rush Street and Southport Avenue. Jake will also contribute some of its fashions to augment the production’s costume design.

Performances for Say You Love Satan run October 11 through November 19, and run Wed-Fri 8:00 p.m., Sat 5:00 p.m. & 8:30 p.m., Sun 3:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale and range from $20- $45.
