Equality supporters to face off with anti-gays in suburbs Saturday

With polls showing a majority of Illinoisians now supporting the equal right of gays to marry, marriage rights advocates and supporters will counter-demonstrate in two Chicago suburbs this Saturday against rallies organized by the Illinois Family Institute (IFI), a Southern Poverty Law Center-designated hate group.
The competing demonstrations will both be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 11 in front of two different Illinois Representatives' offices: Rep. Anthony DeLuca at 195 W. Joe Orr Road in Chicago Heights, IL., and Rep. Stephanie Kifwit at 1677 Montgomery Road in Aurora, IL.
Gay rights advocates have successfully countered IFI demonstrations targeting state reps., including 83rd Dist. Rep. Linda Chapia LaVia of Aurora and 81st Dist. Rep Ron Sandack of Downers Grove.
Sandack, a Republican, told crowds on May 8 that his vote on the state's equal marriage bill remained a firm "yes."
The pro-equal rights rally in Chicago Heights is being organized by the Gay Liberation Network and The Civil Rights Agenda, and the Aurora counter-demonstration is being organized by Fox Valley Pride.
