Des Moines, IA - In a landmark decision April 3, 2009, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled unanimously (7-0) to determine that denying the right to marry to same-sex couples was incompatible with the equal protection clause of a state constitution. Ultra-conservative support led by the almost neo-Nazi Bob Vanderplaats of Grimes, IA, resulted in three of the courts justices, David Baker, Michael Streit, and Marsha Ternus, being thrown off the court in a retention vote in November of 2010.

Now, Vanderplaats and other conservatives are attempting to oust sitting Justice David Wiggins for his supporting vote in the decision.

The Human Rights Coalition (HRC) has agreed to assist in providing $25,000 of funding to the "Justice Not Politics Action" group, which supports Justice Wiggins retention, by matching any donation made by close of business Thursday.

Iowa became the third state of now a total of six, plus the District of Columbia, to legalize same-sex marriage with the Court's ruling. Voters in Maine, Maryland and Washington state will be voting on approving gay marriage in those states November 6, 2012. ,strong.Don't let this be compromised.
