Under a new sponsorship deal with the Cherry Fund, Centaur Music presents the official benefit CD for the annual Cherry event under the Party Groove brand, Centaur’s highly acclaimed dance series featuring music from the nation’s biggest dance events. The newest mix, Party Groove: Cherry Volume 2, features New Orleans-born, and New York-based DJ Joe Gauthreaux.
What sets Gauthreaux apart from the masses is his consistently on-target performance. Accompanying his keen ear, sensitivity to the audience’s mood, and emotional connection to the art is meticulous preparation; Gauthreaux regularly spends dozens of hours each week scouring far-flung record shops in search of fresh tracks and old, ignored classics.
These attributes make him one of the most versatile and reliable DJs at work today. In addition to compiling a danceable collection, Gauthreaux has put together a group of groove tunes that will stand the test of time— incorporating tribal rhythms and big room stompers, overlayed vocal tracks, and high energy builds.
Party Groove: Cherry Volume 2offers up a tribal heavy set to celebrate the occasion. The disc fittingly begins with the rolling, building “Can I Hear The Drum?,” a track that characterizes the movement throughout the set. Complementing the building nature of the beat is the addition of saxophones, pianos, and the always-popular diva belting it out. Loleatta Holloway picks up the energy with her new hit “Stand Up,” a crowd pleaser that samples her prior hit “Dreamin.”
The second half of the CD makes a progressive turn as Joe takes the music in a sexier direction. His overly of the Groove Junkies “Music’s Gotta Jumpin” with “King Master” by Hornetz really sets the tone, followed by the new tracks by Peter Presta, DJ Fist, master remixer Antoile Clamaran, and the latest from the worldwide stars Kings of Tomorrow.
Gauthreax has played great gigs nationwide, and will play Manila Gay Pride June 25th, and the Pavilion at Fire Island July 7th.
Cherry is a fund-raising event for The Cherry Fund, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization that benefits an annually revolving staple of GLBT charities. This year, Cherry celebrates ten years of service, supporting such charities as the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League, Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry, Mautner Project (the National Lesbian Health Organization), The Center (Home for GLBT in Metro DC) and the Whitman-Walker Clinic.
