Chicago, IL -
The year's best in gay and lesbian music will be showcased in Chicago from June 8-12 when the Windy City hosts "Outmusic" Awards Week that culminates with the 2005 Outmusic Awards Show on Sunday, June 12. Now celebrating its fifth year, this is the first time the event will be held outside New York City.
The awards show—co-hosted by singer/actress/comedian Lea DeLaria and Chicago singer/songwriter Jinx Titantic--will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington. Preceding the show will be four days of citywide events showcasing GLBT music. (Outmusic Awards Event Schedule, June 8th-12th)
More than 70 artists, groups, songwriters and producers have been nominated in 12 Outmusic Award categories: New Recording (Female, Male, Duo or Group, Band, Chorus or Choir, and Instrumental); Debut Recording (Female and Male); Producer; Songwriter; Outsong on the Year; and Outmusician of the Year.
Among the awards show's highlights will be the honoring of singer Randy Jones (the iconic cowboy from music legends The Village People) with a "Special Recognition" award.
Other gay/lesbian music legends to be honored are: acclaimed guitarist/producer June Millington with an Outmusic "Heritage" award, and Pamela Smith (Amazon Radio) with an "Outstanding Support" award that recognizes the invaluable contributions of non-musicians to promoting GLBT music. In addition to Jones, singer/songwriter Tim Cain also will receive an Outmusic "Special Recognition" award.
