here! Gay Television Network Now Available to 40 Million U.S. Homes

San Francisco, CA - With less than two years on the airwaves, here!, the nation’s first gay and lesbian television network has reached an audience of 40 million U.S. homes, the San Francisco based company announced Tuesday.

Based on information from the National Cable and Telecommunication Association, the announcement is tanks in large part to new partnerships with two of the nation’s largest cable providers, Cox and Comcast. Both cable companies have started offering here! as part of their on-demand lineup of programming (including Comcast in Chicago).

The network offers an exclusive line-up of gay and lesbian programming through formats including video on-demand, subscription video-on-demand, pay-per-view and as a 24-hour a day, seven day a week subscription channel.

Recently, here! announced it will be moving forward with a line-up of original programming made made-for-network movies, including a forthcoming adaptation of Tony-award winning playwright Terrence McNally’s The Lisbon Traviata and a series about a gay teenager coming of age.

“Our mission has always been to offer a variety of programming that will appeal to the diverse gay and lesbian population,” CEO and here! founder Paul Colichman said in a press statement. “We are committed to developing and creating original material that is authentic, positive and entertaining.”

here! is widely credited with having the largest movie library of gay and lesbian themed films available on cable. In addition to this collection of films, forthcoming films will feature such noted talent as Matthew St. Patrick of HBO’s Six Feet Under, Antonio Sabato Jr. and out actor Chad Allen.

This fall, here! will be joined the LOGO, a Viacom channel directed at the gay and lesbian community and created as an off-shoot of MTV.
