Chappell on Community raises a glass to those who have shaped the LGBT community

Chicago, IL - Celebrating its tenth year as the leading provider of online news and entertainment for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the Midwest, ChicagoPride.com today introduced Chappell on Community, a new editorial series focused on Chicago's LGBT community and its leaders.

The monthly feature, written and produced by ChicagoPride.com editor-at-large Terrence Chappell, will pay homage to community leaders through in-depth interviews, profiles and pictorial features.

"From the Stonewall riots in 1969 in New York City to the more recent of marches on Washington for marriage equality and the end of ‘don't ask, don't tell'", the LGBT community has experienced its share of struggle, strife, and victory," said Chappell. "However, behind every march, behind every piece of pro-LGBT legislation, and behind every victory are our leaders; leaders who have worked to shape and guide the community into a strong, synergic network of organizations, businesses, and professionals."

"Without our leaders, there would be no march, there would be no Stonewall riot, there would be no legislative actions, and eventually, there would be no us," concluded Chappell.

Chappell on Community debuts today with a fiery feature on long-time community leader and out-spoken activist Rick Garcia.

"Under our Make a Difference initiative, we're always looking for smart, new ways to engage the community. We expect this new series will energize individuals to become more involved, to Make a Difference," said Bill Pritchard, GoPride.com Sr. Vice President of Community Affairs.

Chappell, who grew up and still resides in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, remains active in the LGBT community. He founded Professional Young Gays (P.Y.G.), a social and business networking initiative designed to connect young, business-minded gay men and women, and he continues to write Chappell Confidential, a social and nightlife column on ChicagoPride.com.
