3030 N. Broadway development back under way

Chicago, IL - A second forum on the possible development of 3030 N. Broadway In Chicago will be held tomorrow evening at the Mt. Carmel Church at 708 W. Belmont. The owners and developers of the property will present their new proposal, a mixed-use residential and commercial building that includes a two-story Mariano's grocery store. This will be a public meeting on this proposed project where residents are invited to learn more and share feedback.

On Father's Day 2005, the Dominick's and Pizza Hut at the area of 3030 N. Broadway burned to the ground. Although many promises were made regarding a prompt rebuilding of the space, the economic sag left the area vacant for more than 6 ½ years. A previously planned project from 2007 saw the developer go bankrupt due to the recession and banking crisis.

Lakeview and Boystown residents have grumbled for years about the vacancy of the area, which left a gap in grocery availability for the neighborhood. Pizza Hut fans were also disappointed that another outlet never opened again in the area.

Alderman Tom Tunney is involved with observation of the proposals and more information can be gleaned from his website at
