South Wales - Chris Birch of South Wales was showing off for his rugby teammates by doing a backflip when he landed on his head. And when he woke up in the hospital -- he said he had turned from straight to gay.

Birch's former life was as a banker and rugby player engaged to a woman. Now, at 26, he is working as a hairdresser and living with another man.

"I was gay when I woke up and I still am," he told the Daily Mail. "It sounds strange but when I came round I immediately felt different. I wasn't interested in women any more. I was definitely gay. I had never been attracted to a man before – I'd never even had any gay friends."

Birch lost a bunch of weight and started to be interested in his own appearance.

"I started to take more pride in my appearance, bleached my hair and started working out," he said. "People I used to know barely recognized me and with my new look I became even more confident."

The Daily Mail spoke to a stroke expert who said that strokes "rewire the brain," which might account for Birch's new sexual orientation.
