Chicago, IL - Chicago Police have two men in custody following a stabbing attack in Lakeview on Saturday, July 16.

44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney's office told ChicagoPride.com that police immediately responded to the incident and that two men are in custody.

Chicago Police say the 24-year-old African-American man was stabbed in the 900 block of West Belmont Ave. around 3:10 a.m. Saturday when a fight broke out at Belmont and Wilton, near Tunney's Ann Sather Restaurant, after the two suspects approached the victim from behind. Police have not indicated what started the fight.

"I was out on the scene at 3:45 a.m. and have been in contact with 19th District Commander John Kenny," Tunney said in a released statement. "Thank you to our officers for their quick and professional action."

Tunney says late night patrols have been stepped up in Lakeview and around Boystown as resident concerns grew to alarm following a July 3 stabbing and mob attack on Halsted at Aldine, that was caught on tape. Police have arrested one man in connection with the July 3 attack.

The victim in the Saturday morning attack suffered a stab wound to the back and was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, 836 W. Wellington Ave., in good condition. He has since been released.

Belmont area detectives continue to investigate.

The Lakeview stabbing was one of several violent incidents overnight in Chicago that also left one man dead in a drive-by shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.
