New York business leaders ask Albany to legalize gay marriage

New York business leaders are asking state lawmakers to legalize gay marriage.
In a letter sent to Albany this week, two dozen business leaders including the CEO of Goldman Sachs and the chairman of Morgan Stanley said that equal rights are necessary to maintain New York's economic prowess.
"Increasingly, in an age where talent determines the economic winners, great states and cities must demonstrate a commitment to creating an open, healthy and equitable environment in which to live and work," the letter read."This is why it is so important that New York State grant full rights to all of its citizens by passing marriage equality. As other states, cities and countries across the world extend marriage rights regardless of sexual orientation, it will become increasingly difficult to recruit the best talent if New York cannot offer the same benefits and protections."
The New York Times said that Gov. Andrew Cuomo and others will push hard to pass gay marriage this year. If that happens, New York will become the sixth state where same-sex marriage is legal.
