Chicago, IL -
Rosie O'Donnell has cancelled her plans to make the Trump International Hotel and Tower her Chicago address while she tapes her new daytime talk show for the Oprah Winfrey Network.
"She is not going to be living or renting a Donald Trump apartment and is still looking at real estate options," a rep for O'Donnel told
The Advocate on Tuesday.
Last week O'Donnell said on her SiriusXM radio show that she would be staying at the Trump property, saying, "They got me the Penthouse at the new Trump Chicago. It's gonna be fantastic in a lot of ways. I hate him in an entertaining-not-real way."
O'Donnell's decision was before the
Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)
asked supporters to "Tune Out Trump" and reject his television shows, hotels, resorts, and golf courses.
Trump has recently made a number of anti-gay statements as he gears up for a potential presidential run in 2012.
"I'm not in favor of gay marriage," Trump recently said as he appealed to conservative voters. "They should not be able to marry."
The real estate mogul has also rejected the concept of civil unions and even medical benefits for same-sex partners.
Following O'Donnell's decision to cancel her stay, GLAAD issued a statement.
"Rosie O'Donnell has sent an important message to the majority of Americans - gay and straight - who don't agree with Donald Trump's statements against marriage equality for all loving and committed couples," said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. "Fair-minded people should think twice about supporting a businessman who courts our dollars but advocates denying gay and lesbian couples protections that all families need to take care of each other."
