chicago flower & garden show features over 30 gardens

Spring is blooming March 5-13 at Navy Pier

Chicago, IL - Celebrating it's 17th year, the 2011 Chicago Flower & Garden Show will again green the shores of Lake Michigan when it returns to Navy Pier on Chicago's lakefront today.

The iconic horticulture and landmark showcase, which runs through Sunday, March 13, is designed to inspire, educate and motivate visitors as they are treated to the best in landscape design and see the latest in green and sustainable products.

Themed "The Sport of Gardening," the show's 30-plus gardens will again spotlight top Midwest landscapers, growers and garden designers. The show mixes exciting visuals with realistic solutions for backyards, patios and balconies.

This year's show also features a new mosaic-patterned floor plan where, says Tony Abruscato, show director, visitors are guaranteed to discover something new at every turn.

Among the gardens will be one designed by acclaimed Christy Webber Landscapes for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Other fun "sporting" touches in show gardens will include a kayak and a whimsical croquet game. There will also be special involvement at the show from the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.

Other show highlights include more than 100 hand-on demonstrations and classes including container gardening workshops, the popular vendor "Marketplace," daily "Garden Gourmet" culinary demonstrations featuring more than 30 top chefs and much more.

Located at 600 E. Grand Avenue, Navy Pier is easily reached by mass transit and there is also special discounted parking of $14 at Navy Pier for show visitors.

The 2011 Chicago Flower & Garden Show runs Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., and Sundays from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Adult admission is $15 weekdays; $17 weekends. Admission for children ages 4-12 is $5. Discounts for groups of 15 or more are also available.
