Parade Special Guest (Grand Marshall): Esera Tuaolo

Chicago, IL - PRIDEChicago, organizers of the Annual Pride Parade, who also compile and publicize the annual June Pride Month Calendar of Events, have announced preliminary plans for the 2004 Pride Celebration.

Every year, the Pride Month Calendar contains over 80 different social, cultural, athletic and political events organized by various community organizations and individuals. PRIDEChicago publicizes these events on their web site; in their PrideGuide; in their community mailings and local publications.

Several events already planned by various community organizations include: choral concerts, plays, dances, workshops, a competitive race, a lakefront picnic, a street fest and the 35th Annual Pride Parade, just to name a few. This year's parade is scheduled for Sunday June 27 at 12 Noon. A complete list of June Pride Month events will be publicized in May.

In March, PRIDEChicago mailed out registration packets that contained forms for parade entry; PrideGuide advertising; portable restroom sponsorship; and for organizations to list an event on the June Pride Month Calendar. With another mailing going out in early May, individuals (interested in receiving registration forms) can have their name added to a mailing list.

Under an updated City of Chicago parade ordinance that first went into effect two years ago, there are now new rules for all parades in the city. Richard Pfeiffer, Parade Coordinator, is reminding potential parade participants to register early to secure a spot. Cut-off date for parade registration is Wednesday June 16--or until all 250 positions are filled--whichever comes first.

Last Fall, former professional football player Esera Tuaolo, signed on to be a Special Guest (Grand Marshall) for this year's annual Pride Parade. He came out in October, 2002 as part of HBO's "Real Sports" program. Esera played on five NFL teams including the Green Bay Packers and attended the 1998 Super Bowl XXXIII as an Atlanta Falcon. He retired to pursue a career in singing and acting including a recent spot in a commercial for Chili's restaurants. In addition to a recent appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show, he does speaking engagements and appearances around the country.
