The Illinois Supreme Court has stayed a Monday ruling by the Illinois Appellate Court, which ruled that Rahm Emanuel did not meet residency requirements to be on the ballot for Mayor of Chicago. The high court ordered election officials not to print any ballots without his name.
While the Court has yet to decide if they will hear the case, the stay of the lower court ruling is a temporary victory for the Emanuel campaign; however, it only stops Chicago election authorities from printing the 2 million ballots for the Feb. 22 mayoral election without Emanuel's name.
Emanuel has filed for an expedited hearing in front of the Illinois Supreme Court. Ballot printing began today without his name and early voting begins Monday, January 31, 2011.
