Cologne, Germany -
Michael Koenigsford and Thomas Brandl are trying a new tactic to market to gays in Germany: they're selling a gay-targeted coffin.
The coffin is painted with male nudes.
"Naturally there were some people who threw their hands up in horror when we had them on display in the window but they are tasteful and beautiful - like our customers," Koenigsford told Orange UK News. "People are cutting back in the recession but the one group of consumers who still have high spending power are gay couples and very few people are designing for them in this market."
Brandl and Koenigsford are partners in life as well as in business. They said their $2,300 coffin offers gay customers to maintain their identity, even in death.
"We believe you should be able to have a coffin that lets you embark on your last journey in a way that reflects how you lived your life," Brandl told Reuters.
