Over 560 donations made in one week through Howard Brown’s website

Chicago, IL - Since the launch of the Howard Brown Health Center's Lifeline Appeal, hundreds of people have made donations toward matching a $100,000 challenge grant from an anonymous donor. Since the Nov. 9 challenge grant was announced, more than $75,000 has been donated, including more than 560 individual contributions made through Howard Brown's website.

The goal is to raise $100,000 by Nov. 30 with the total going toward the bigger $500,000 in 50 Days Lifeline Appeal.

"We are overwhelmed by the response of our 'lifeliners'," said Jamal M. Edwards, President and CEO of Howard Brown Health Center. "From the moment we announced the generous challenge grant, donors began to make on-line gifts, large and small. Some people even came to the health center and dropped off checks and others handed donations to one of our staff. We are truly fortunate and do not take the community's generous support lightly."

Howard Brown is continuing to challenge the community, friends and supporters to contribute to the Lifeline Appeal. Currently, every contribution to help Howard Brown will be matched by the Challenge Grant dollar for dollar.

The health center also announced today the formation of Lifeline Appeal Committee, which is being co-chaired by Marcus Boggs and by Angie Frank of Cheetah Gyms. The committee will assist in steering Howard Brown in successfully reaching the $500,000 goal.

"We look forward to announcing on the 50th day of this amazing fundraising challenge that not only have we met the goal, we have surpassed it – that the lifeline is pumping strong," said Boggs.

Frank added, "Howard Brown is truly a lifeline to all members of our community, and with the public's support, I am sure we can restore and rebuild the community's health center. We need everyone's help to keep filling the Lifeline heart," referring to the appeal's large, orange, heart-shape logo that displays the level of donations.

Donations can be forwarded to Howard Brown's Lifeline appeal by visiting www.HowardBrown.org or calling (773)388-1600.
