BaQyard Babes, Seeds and Songs, and the Color Club art center, 4146 N. Elston Ave., brought queer people of color and ally vibes to Chicago.
BaQyard Babes is a grassroots events organization and market operated by queer people of color. The group shares community "backyard vibes" with the creative and sapphic communities of Chicago.
Rena Medina founded the organization in 2021. "During prime covid times we wanted to create a space for people to connect and support each other when times were challenging," Medina said.
"BaQyard Babes started out as a backyard market and community gathering and has now flourished into more than just a market from hosting workshops around the city, matchmaking markets, queer open decks, happy hour meet ups and collaboration with other curators of Chicago," Medina added. "We create spaces to connect with other people of color, queer folx and like minded people."
