Company members from Disney’s "Aladdin" North American tour will present “Agrabah After Dark: A Cabaret Event,” a live cabaret-style concert, on Monday, May 22, at Sidetrack (3349 N. Halsted Street) in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.
"Aladdin" company members will perform a selection of their favorite songs and the concert will be followed by Sidetrack’s signature “Musical Monday,” which features show-tune videos playing throughout the bar until 2 a.m.
Tickets for “Agrabah After Dark: A Cabaret Event” are $20 and can be purchased at the door starting at 6 p.m., and all proceeds will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the philanthropic heart of Broadway that supports more than 450 organizations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., including 10 in Chicago. Donations provide meals and medication, health care and hope to those facing health challenges and personal crises.
“Sidetrack is thrilled to partner with Broadway In Chicago,” said Sidetrack general manager Brad Balof. “These cabarets are a great way to experience amazing Broadway-caliber talent in an intimate setting. Performers often (bring) songs that they would not be cast to perform in many traditional shows, so it’s also a chance to see some very rare performances.
“The song selection, the voices, the entertainment … it’s all through the roof.”
Sidetrack previously hosted a similar cabaret with the touring cast of the "Book of Mormon", and the video bar was packed.
“Hosting this cabaret prior to our Musical Monday is a perfect fit,” Balof said.
The cabaret concert starts at 7 p.m.
Cast members get to choose their own numbers, “but you can expect some fun duets and group numbers as well as some non-traditional interpretations of well-known favorites,” Balof said. “The Aladdin cast and Sidetrack are proud to support the long-standing work for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.”
"Aladdin" will play Broadway In Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph Street) from May 17-28. For more information and tickets, visit BroadwayInChicago.com.
