Charlee Disney , father Roy, promises family will match donations to Human Rights Campaign up to $500,000

Charlee Disney (they/them), great-grandchild of Walt Disney, came out as transgender at the Los Angeles Human Rights Campaign Gala. They lamented that they didn't do enough to advocate against anti-LGBTQ legislation popularly known as the "Don't Say Gay" bill.

The Parental Rights in Education Act was passed by both houses of the Florida legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Decried by various advocacy groups outside of the LGBTQ community, the law criminalizes teaching topics around sexual orientation and gender identity to students from Grades 3 and younger.

The 30-year old Disney, who teaches high school biology, shared that her family will match donations to Human Rights Campaign up to $250,000.

Last week, Roy Disney, grandson of Walt, announced he's increasing the match to $500,000.

"Equality matters deeply to us," the elder Disney said in a statement released to the media.

Human Rights Campaign is the largest LGBTQ political advocacy group in the U.S.
