Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez open to renaming Jeanne and Jules Manford Post Office Building in New York City

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has offended advocates in her home district as she openly considers renaming a post office building already named for historic figures in the LGBTQ community.

The Jeanne and Jules Manford Post Office Building in Queens are named after a trailblazing couple who founded Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).

Jeanne Manford was the first parent to march with her child in a Pride parade. The organization she established, PFLAG, created a way for parents of lesbian and gay persons at the time to lobby for their childrens' sakes. It has now progressed into one of the leading LGBTQ civil rights organizations in the U.S.

Ocasio-Cortez's office said they are also open to keeping the name.
