Champaign-Urbana welcomes first gay pride event

Champaign-Urbana is set to host its first gay pride festival in the city's history. CU Pride Fest is planned for Saturday, Aug. 20.
The event organizers, Uniting Pride Center of Champaign County, say interest remains strong. Currently, 14 artists' booths, two food vendors, and a number of musical acts have signed-on to participate.
The entertainment schedule includes An Evening With Your Mother, Charming Chaos, Amasong, spoken word artists, drag performers, Class Act Improv, Zoo Improv, Desafinado, DJ Mertz, plus a burlesque troupe.
CU Pride Fest, the culmination of pride events happening throughout the week in the Champaign-Urbana area, will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the Lincoln Square Mall in Urbana.
