Do you do a mean Sammy Davis, Jr.? Talent scouts are looking for two performers who can revive the spirit of Sammy. The mega-talent left a mega-legacy, and though he was short in stature, his are big shoes to fill.
Since his death at 64 in 1990, his widow and third wife, Altovise has dedicated her life to keeping his spirit alive.
She now in Chicago teaming up with local producer, Jimmy Richards to create an original musical based on his life. The Show will be called, "Mr. Bojangles: The Ultimate Entertainer" and will tour casinos around the country.
Casting is starting in Chicago this weekend before they go to New York and Los Angeles. An open call will be held this Saturday, January 10 from 10:00am until noon at the Chicago Academy for Arts, 1010 W. Chicago Ave. You must be able to sing, dance, act, and do impressions ala Sammy Davis. For more information call the casting hotline at 312-913-1136.
As a side note, I met Altovise this week and she shared some memories of her time with Sammy. She said Sammy loved to cook for her and his favorite pastime was preparing seafood dishes for his wife while he watched his soap operas. "One Life To Live" was his favorite and made several appearances on the show in 1979 and 1981.
