Metropolis Coffee Co. cafe on Granville set to reopen June 15

Popular Edgewater hangout, music venue, and coffee purveyor Metropolis Coffee Co. has announced that it is ending its self-imposed pandemic closure. It will reopen its café on June 15.
Metropolis Coffee Co., 1039 W. Granville Ave., is considered an LGBTQ hotspot by GoPride.com—as it is heavily trafficked by LGBTQ persons.
The announcement came as Metropolis gave the shop a good cleaning, retooled its costs by choosing new garbage and recycling vendors, for example, and removed its white paper window coverings.
During the initial first phases of reopening the city during the pandemic, Metropolis shifted to walk-up window service only.
It then decided to better protect its workers' health and well-being by closing shop until the Chicago region had better public vaccination participation.
Since 2003, Metropolis has been open in a Loyola University-owned building on Granville and Kenmore Ave.
It was established by founders Jeff and Tony Dreyfuss—a father and son duo.
They roast coffee beans at an Avondale location for wholesale business. Their coffees can be found at nationwide restaurants and hotels.
Metropolis is a Sanctuary Restaurant—participating in a pact of small businesses that support and offer resources to immigrants and refugees, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion of women, people of color, and LGBTQ persons.
