Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison, the first openly LGBTQ member of the Cook County Board, led the raising of the Pride flag over Daley Plaza on Tuesday morning in commemoration of Pride month.

“Today marks a historic day for Cook County,” said Morrison. “By raising the rainbow flag, we are sending a clear message: No matter who you love, you are welcome in Cook County.”

The flag, for the first time in the county’s history, will fly the entire month of June.

This year’s Pride month will continue to be celebrated differently due to the coronavirus pandemic, but after the virus canceled nearly every in-person event in 2020, some are back this year.

Chicago Pride Fest is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 1-2, followed by the annual Chicago Pride Parade on Oct. 3, allowing restrictions to further ease. But there are still a number of events planned for June, including Pride in the Park on June 26 and 27.
