San Francisco, CA -
San Francisco police have identified the man arrested Saturday on murder charges at a gay pride event, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Ed Perkins, 20, is charged with the killing of 19-year-old Stephen A. Powell Jr. Powell was among the three people hit by gunfire at about 11:30PM in the city's predominantly-gay Castro district as Pink Saturday kicked off the city's 40th annual gay pride weekend.
Police believe both men are associated with separate gangs.
Powell was transported to a hospital after being shot multiple times. On Sunday, the San Francisco medical examiner's office announced his death but has yet to determine a cause of death.
Perkins, who was arrested on the scene, is charged with murder, carrying a concealed weapon and gang charges.
The other two people – a 27-year-old male and a 19-year-old female – were both shot in the leg and are expected to make a full recovery.
An eyewitness who did not want to be identified called the scene "mayhem."
"I heard the shots and just ran," he told San Francisco CBS affiliate KPIX. "People just started throwing bottles after it happened. Some people that got shot over here, her friend that was holding her after she got shot got hit in the face with a bottle."
The eyewitness said the police had it "locked down" within "a minute or so."
Police say the shooting was connected to a personal dispute not the festivities. They believe the shooter knew Powell.
Perkins is being held without bail.
