Poll finds three-quarters of LGBTQ voters back Biden

With the presidential election a little more than a month away, a new poll released Thursday by GLAAD finds 76 percent of likely LGBTQ voters are supporting Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

The GLAAD “State of LGTBQ Voters” poll shows Biden holding a commanding lead over President Donald Trump, who received 17%.

Five percent said they plan to back another candidate and 2 percent remain undecided. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percent.

The poll of 800 LGBTQ adults was conducted between Sept. 21-25 by Pathfinder Opinion Research.

Of them, 88% of respondents report being registered to vote. 92% said they would definitely or probably vote in the upcoming Presidential election.

“We're seeing a surge in LGBTQ voter registration, because our community understands how much is at stake in this election. We cannot sit this one out — our very lives are on the line,” GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said.

Other finding from the poll, Biden led Trump in favorability with 57% of LGBTQ respondents had somewhat or very favorable opinions of Biden compared to 16% for Trump.

Half of LGBTQ voters had somewhat or very favorable opinions of Vice Presidential nominee, Senator Kamala Harris. 13% of LGBTQ voters had a favorable opinion of Vice President Mike Pence.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

In Illinois, the deadline to register to vote online is Sunday, Oct. 18. Postmark deadline for registering to vote by mail is Tuesday, Oct. 6, and the deadline to register in person is Election Day, Nov. 3. Not sure if you're already registered to vote? You can find out here.
