Slovakia - Skinheads attacked gay rights supporters Saturday, wounding at least two people and forcing the cancellation of the first-ever gay parade in the Slovak capital of Bratislava.

According to media reports nearly 80 right-wing extremists attacked an early gathering of 800 - 1,000 gay and human rights activists. The skinheads hurled stones, smoke bombs and eggs at the participants, despite a large police presence of 200 officers.

The parade was called off when police became concerned they could not guarantee the safety of participants. Eight people were detained by police.

Organizers said despite the violence, their festival "Rainbow Pride Bratislava 2010" would continued Sunday morning with a series of concerts.

Gay pride parades and events continued to face strong opposition in some eastern European countries.
