Nina Flowers had already built quite a resume before vaulting to worldwide fame in 2009 as the runner-up on season one of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Flowers started her career as a DJ in 1989 and, four years later, ventured into drag. In 1999, Flowers won both the Miss Puerto Rico Continental and Miss City Lights Continental pageants.

Flowers is still a renowned DJ on the circuit scene, with residences in Denver, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City.

Flowers is a regular in Chicago, too.

Flowers was spinning Saturday, Jan. 18 at Hydrate Nightclub in Boystown, with her distinctive sound until the wee hours of the morning.

Flowers tagged Hydrate as "legendary and the No. 1 gay dance club in Chicago."

Flowers re-unites with Hydrate in late-March at the inaugural H2O Festival Puerto Vallarta – with 6 parties, 12 DJs and 3 venues.

"I'm super excited about the H2O Festival because I love the team producing it ...and I love PV," Flowers said. "It is an amazing combination to throw the perfect music festival: great productions, amazing teams, DJs from all over the world, and the most beautiful and safe environment you can possibly imagine.

"A beautiful music festival requires the perfect combination of elements. We have everything to make it happen."

Flowers said her H2O Festival goals are simple: to help create a fun weekend so attendees can escape their problems and come together in a fun-filled musical experience.

"PV is the perfect spot," for the H2O Festival, Flowers said. "It is safe, beautiful, super gay-friendly, and has been a gay vacation destination for a long time. It has all the elements lined up for producing a successful event."

Flowers will be joined in PV by such DJs as Dan Slater, Alex Acosta, Joe Gauthreaux, and others. Chicago-based DJs Cindel and Kardona also will be bringing the beats in PV.

"Festivals always give us DJs the opportunity to be next to some of the most amazing people in the industry," Flowers said. "For me, it is always amazing to be able to witness and hear what my peers are doing, how they keep pushing the envelope to give the best musical journey. It is beautiful to see and, to some extent, it's educational. We execute our craft in different manners, with different approaches and styles. So it is always amazing to witness how others are doing it. It's inspiring."

H2O Festival Puerto Vallarta is being produced by the team at Hydrate Nightclub in conjunction with Matinée Group (Madrid), Reload (Los Angeles) and Nocturnal (San Francisco).

Matinée Group will be producing two events in PV: Circuit Festival and LaLeche at the Mantamar Beach Club. Reload joins H2O for the opening and closing after party, being produced at Industry Nightclub. Nocturnal will be bringing their energy to Saturday's late night in Puerto Vallarta.

"Great Festivals always work together with other brands. Partnership brings out a massive expansion on networking. It's always a great benefit to everyone involved. These are all successful brands that I've worked for, and I know everyone is bringing their A-game.

"Expect the unexpected in PV, and be prepared to be surprised ...That is all I can (say) now."
