"I don't understand why we're here," Edward said, sitting uncomfortably in Other David's office.

"All he said was that it was regarding Bruce's death," Steve said.

"I swear to God, if that chicken queen ex of yours left us with any debt..."

"Sorry," Other David said as he came in. "I had some personal stuff to take care of."

"That's all right, David, but honestly we're dying of curiosity. What's this about?"

"Well Steve, as you know all of Bruce's family is gone."

"Ooh I told you he'd stick you with a bunch of debt," Edward quietly fumed.

"I'm aware, David," Steve said. "And we carried out his last wishes: he was cremated and his ashes were scattered on Lake Michigan."

"There's the matter of his estate..."

"What estate? Bruce was broke."

"Except the money he had left over from the sale of your properties. And a sizable life insurance policy. For all of which you are the primary beneficiary."

"Excuse me?"

"I'm not going to lie to you, after you broke up he considered leaving it all to Tristan. But after much thought, after all you'd been through, he felt it appropriate to keep you the beneficiary."

"Son of a bitch," Steve said, tearing up.

"Wait, so the property we bought back..."

"Balances out. As if you never paid for it at all."

"And the money from his life insurance..."

"Can go towards what we need for the Haven transition home project," Steve said. "Son of a bitch finally did something right."

Other David planned to get to the condo before David or Josh returned from work. He still had to finish packing and he had to get to the leasing office before six to sign for his new apartment. When he got to the condo, David was sitting at the table waiting for him.

"Sorry," Other David said. "I've just got to get some last things. The movers will be by for the rest of my things."

"Josh moved out."

"What? Why?"

"Because I asked him to. Because he's not who I want to be with. You're who I want to be with. One and only you. If you'll have me."

"But..."

"Can we chalk up the last few months  to some crazy adventure we will never go through again? Can you forgive me for not realizing how much I love you before I almost lost you?"

"Yes."

"Will you stay?"

Other David kissed his better half. "Yes."
