My Old Ass is a new comedy from Amazon MGM Studios and the dramatic scenes may have viewers tearing up. The story surrounds Elliott Labrant who celebrates her 18th birthday with two friends in the woods on a camping trip. The trio partake in psychedelic mushrooms by sipping the mind-altering drugs in a brewed tea. Elliott meets her future 39-year-old self to quickly become friends and gain insight into upcoming possibilities.

Things spiral out of control for the young Elliott as the older Elliott's warnings appear to come true. The results are an honest and realistic portrayal of characters in a complicated queer love story that involves family and friends.

The concept of knowing one's future and possibly changing it is not new, but this unpredictable storyline avoids the obvious pitfalls.

Some may compare it to other movies like Big or Back to the Future where changing the past affects the future, by My Old Ass is worth watching for other reasons.

There are strong performances all around but especially from Maisy Stella plays the younger Elliott in a breakout role that doesn't seem like acting at all. She also sings a sweet cover of Justin Bieber's “One Less Lonely Girl” along the way.

Aubrey Plaza is once again reliable in realistically portraying a character this time as the older Elliott.

Written and directed by Megan Park, who is known for The Fallout, takes her time with this project as it rolls out and addresses living in the moment instead of worrying about the future which creates anxiety.

My Old Ass tries to save her younger butt from heartache, but can Elliott avoid her fate? Only time will tell as this tale goes on. The bottom line is it's worth watching for the performances alone and is worthy of the viewer's time.

My Old Ass runs 89 minutes and is in select theaters now with more locations to come later in September.
