Evanston, Illinois is now offering two unique experiences housed under one roof with Fonda and Cantina. Fonda seats 80 people for food service and Cantina seats 60 with a 5,100 square-foot cocktail area. There's even a late-night walkup window for those exploring the downtown Evanston stop at 1735 Benson Avenue.

The namesake refers to an inn or restaurant in Spanish and this place promotes diners staying a while to enjoy what this establishment provides to its guests. The staff promises to make people feel right at home while trying out some delicious dishes.

Chefs Miguel Escobar and Carlos Chase are rolling out a strong menu with standards such shrimp tacos and sopes de tinga to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. The overall menu is influenced by the background of the two tastemakers from Michoacan and Guerrero in Mexico.

Sink your teeth into creatively executed chile rellanos while sipping on a Sonreir, a mezcal mixed with tangerine and aloe vera. If you don't imbibe in spirits try the Chikanita Mia packed with a prickly pear puree.

To kick things off a celebratory ribbon cutting commenced on February 7, 2023, that gave invited attendees a first look at the venue. Many were familiar with the previous popular restaurant The Stained Glass but were curious about what the new crew would bring to the table.
