Teen Spirit seemed like a true story that is complete fiction. Copying off reality competition shows and the tired story of a small town girl that makes it big, Elle Fanning just doesn't have the chops to deliver some of the iconic songs that she tries to cover. Not only does her mother change her tune suddenly, but things end predictably for the young singer with big dreams in the storyline. If she had only called Kelly Clarkson over at UglyDolls to get some advice.
The Hustle debuts May 10 with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson playing con artists. Wilson drums up some chuckles at the beginning thanks to her slapstick, but the two together don't work and Hathaway's Josephine never really gels. When a man swindles them, the female empowerment that could have turned Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on its ear goes off the rails. Instead of this one, go directly to the female driven Booksmart to be schooled on how a comedy should be done on Memorial Day Weekend.
