Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. is a chain based out of North Carolina. Founder Vernon Rudolph bought the recipe from a New Orleans chef and began selling to local grocery stores.

Krispy Kreme opened its 1,000 shop in Kansas City last year and now finally hits home at 17815 S. Halsted Street on Jan. 10.

The big news is the first 200 customers have a chance at winning free doughnuts depending on where they land in the line on opening day.

There is new freshly ground coffee to enjoy at their locations and an app to earn a free doughnut.

Samples recently arrived at Tribune under the Christmas tree and the employees gobbled them up.

Environmental plans for the company include no more cutting down rainforests and using free range eggs by 2018.
