Chicago Cardinal Francis George says his opposition to gay marriage stems from gay and lesbian couples not being able to consummate their unions.

As momentum for Illinois marriage equality continues to build, ChicagoPride.com has confirmed that Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson will be in Chicago and Springfield this week to lobby for Illinois' gay marriage bill.

Illinois State Senator Heather Steans has said supporters of a gay marriage bill are "close" to lining up needed votes to pass the measure in the upcoming lame duck session.

Momentum for marriage equality in Illinois continues to grow as more than 200 Illinois clergy and faith leaders have endorsed same-sex marriage legislation that could come up for a vote in Springfield before Jan. 9.

In the wake of the announcement by key legislators that they will seek passage of an Illinois marriage equality bill in January 2013, a broad range of organizations have joined to form a new coalition, called Illinois Unites for Marriage, organizers said Thursday.

A group of anti-gay organizations have created a coalition to fight marriage equality in Illinois, after an announcement last week that lawmakers would push for a vote on same-sex marriage in January.

The Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) has endorsed legislation legalizing gay marriage in Illinois.

In an editorial published Sunday, Dec. 16, the Chicago Sun-Times called for full marriage equality in Illinois.

The Roman Catholic Church in Illinois has begun rolling out a campaign to kill a gay marriage bill in Illinois.

State Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) and State Sen. Heather Steans (D-Chicago) said Thursday they believe the Illinois legislature is ready to recognize same-sex marriage.
