St. Patrick's Day Events - Boystown 2018

Chicago's St. Patrick's Day weekend officially gets started Saturday, March 17 with the dyeing of the Chicago River at 9  a.m.

The best spots to watch are Michigan Avenue bridge's east side, the Columbus Drive bridge's west side or Wacker Drive (upper or lower) between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive. Then head to Grant Park for the St. Patrick’s Day parade that starts with bagpipes at noon!

The tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green for the holiday dates to 1962 and was the idea of Chicago Plumbers Union business manager Stephen Bailey. Parade organizers say the powder used is a secret recipe and is environmentally safe.

St. Patrick’s Day festivities continue all day and night throughout the city, including Chicago's Boystown neighborhood where Sidetrack (image) opens at Noon.
